New Delhi, Aug 20: India will host the 12th BRICS Communications Ministers Meeting on August 21, bringing together Communications Ministers and senior officials from BRICS member countries to discuss ways to strengthen cooperation in the digital and technology sectors.

Union Minister for Communications Jyotiraditya M. Scindia will chair the meeting, which will focus on information and communication technologies, digital transformation, innovation and the development of reliable and resilient digital infrastructure.

The meeting is being held as part of India’s BRICS Chairship under the broader theme of “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability.” The ICT discussions will centre on the theme “Innovate, Cooperate and Transform (ICT) for a Resilient Future.”

The participating countries will discuss emerging technologies, Digital Public Infrastructure, future communication networks, cybersecurity, capacity building and efforts to expand inclusive digital connectivity.

The meeting is also expected to give BRICS members an opportunity to exchange experiences and share practical solutions in areas of digital transformation. The discussions will place particular emphasis on strengthening digital capabilities and expanding access to technology across BRICS countries and the wider Global South.

During its Chairship, India has been working to deepen cooperation among BRICS members in areas such as resilient digital infrastructure, next-generation networks, cybersecurity, innovation and capacity building.

The Department of Telecommunications has been coordinating discussions under the BRICS Working Group for Cooperation in ICTs, including proposals for BRICS Capacity Building Centres and greater collaboration in emerging technologies.

The meeting will follow up on the discussions held at the 11th BRICS Communications Ministers Meeting under Brazil’s Chairship in 2025, which highlighted the importance of cooperation in ICTs, digital public infrastructure and global digital governance.

As part of the programme, Scindia will brief the media on the key discussions and outcomes of the meeting. He will also visit the Digital BRICS Forum Expo, where digital technologies, innovations and solutions from the BRICS ecosystem will be showcased.

The Expo will provide an opportunity to highlight India’s technological capabilities and encourage interaction and knowledge-sharing among participating countries and technology stakeholders.

The ministerial meeting is expected to further strengthen digital cooperation among BRICS nations and contribute to the development of a more secure, inclusive, resilient and sustainable digital future.
