Oct 15: Rooted in Che’s observations of Japan’s visual culture, the collaboration draws inspiration from a sticker-covered metal board he encountered at Japanese immigration a striking contrast between the country’s celebrated minimalism and pockets of unfiltered, collective expression. Translating this idea of controlled chaos into wearable art, Che created nearly 200 original stickers inspired by Japanese shops and visual identities, layering, distressing and ageing them by hand before translating the resulting artwork onto the sneaker.

What sets CHK x CHE apart is its approach to the idea of customisation. Rather than treating the sneaker as a blank canvas for an isolated graphic, the collaboration approaches it as a living surface that can hold memories, observations, cultural references and multiple layers of meaning. It brings together digital precision and analogue craftsmanship, with the carefully constructed artwork retaining the spontaneity of something assembled organically over time. The result is a study in contrasts: order and disorder, intention and accident, polished design and the imperfect beauty of accumulated expression.
