Sumeet Elko Secures KDMC Contract for Waste Management and City Cleaning

Kalyan-Dombivli, 19th May 2025: In a move aimed at boosting urban cleanliness and improving the quality of life for residents, Sumeet Elko, a leader in waste management solutions, has entered into an official partnership with the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) to launch Maharashtra’s first fully integrated city cleaning and waste-to-energy project. This large-scale initiative will cover the entire waste value chain from collection, transportation, segregation, waste to energy and bio CNG production setting a new standard for sustainable sanitation in the state.

The project was officially inaugurated by Shri Eknath Sambhaji Shinde, Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Dr. Shrikant Eknath Shinde, Hon’ble Member of Parliament, Kalyan Lok Sabha in the presence of KDMC officials. Spanning a 10-year duration, the initiative is the first in Maharashtra to follow an “initial agreed quote” model instead of the commonly used tipping fee model, ensuring better cost efficiency and accountability.

Starting Monday, 19th May 2025, Sumeet Elko will implement the ITAC (Initial Total Area Cleaning) model across all wards of the corporation for one week (from 19th to 25th May). Beginning 26th May 2025, the project will be launched in a phased manner.

Moreover, the project will handle over 600 tons of waste daily through a fleet of 350+ specialized vehicles, including LMV tippers with segregated compartments, battery- operated vehicles and hook loaders. Door-to-door collection will be carried out across 4.5 lakh households, more than 50000 commercial establishments with special CSS teams and 200+ RC containers serving chawls and slum areas.

As part of the performance-linked contract, Sumeet Elko will be monitored on a monthly basis across key performance indicators (KPIs) such as:

  • Timely primary and secondary collection (TAT compliance).
  • Vehicle tracking and route adherence using GPS telemetry.
  • Litter-free corridor maintenance.
  • Grievance redressal within 2 – 48 hours, with escalation tracking.

“We are honored to partner with KDMC on this ambitious initiative. We strongly believe that cleanliness is the foundation of healthier, vibrant and eco-friendly communities. Through this project in Kalyan-Dombivli, we’re not only addressing immediate sanitation challenges but also laying the groundwork for long-term transformation. We’re proud to be a part of this journey and are fully committed to delivering results that residents can see, feel, and take pride in”, said Amit Salunke, CEO & Director at Sumeet Group Enterprises.

“Partnering with Sumeet Elko is a smart step we’ve taken towards our vision of a cleaner and waste-free Kalyan-Dombivli region. With their operational expertise and commitment to excellence, we are confident that this initiative will set new benchmarks in urban sanitation and bring us closer to our dream of a waste-free Kalyan-Dombivli”, said Harshal Gaikwad – Additional Commissioner, Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation.

With additional features such as 226 manual street sweepers and the creation of “Litter-Free Corridors”, the project will be supported by strong community outreach, citizen education campaigns, and a robust monitoring system to ensure long-term impact.
