A Celebration of Artistic Mastery: Swaroop Mukerji’s “Views and Vignettes “

From February 25 to 27, 2025, the WelcomArt Gallery at ITC Sonar hosted “Views and Vignettes,” a remarkable collection of paintings by Swaroop Mukerji. Mukerji, born in 1950 and entirely self-taught, is celebrated globally for exhibitions at esteemed locations like the High Commission of India in London and the World Bank. His art blends grandeur with the everyday, creating vibrant urban scenes alongside tranquil, aging ruins, balancing dynamism and calm.

Mukerji’s renowned works are housed in prestigious collections worldwide, including Rashtrapati Bhavan and the World Bank. His contributions to art are significant, adorning many illustrious locations like the President’s Bodyguard in New Delhi, India House in London, and more.

Gaurav Soneja, Cluster General Manager of ITC Royal Bengal and ITC Sonar, expressed, “WelcomArt is committed to celebrating arts and artisans. Presenting Swaroop Mukerji’s recent works is a true delight. His art merges delicate strokes with profound creativity.”

Swaroop Mukerji remarked on his emotional bond with Kolkata, saying, “Living in Kolkata has been a lifelong romance. Its unique charm is unparalleled. Through my art, I have sought to portray its fascinating essence. This exhibition showcases a wide range of subjects from across India, including Goa, Meghalaya, Orissa, and Bengal. I have employed various media such as watercolors, acrylics, gouache, pen and ink, and charcoal to bring these scenes to life.”

In essence, “Views and Vignettes” offered a rich tapestry of scenes, illuminating different facets of Indian landscapes and urban life while celebrating Mukerji’s unique artistic vision.
